Tucked along Cavan Road is a casual eatery that offers classic Vietnamese Thai fare such as bahn mi and pho.
The Saigon Specialty Banh Mi ($10.90) is a hearty combination of in-house Roasted pork belly, Vietnamese Cold Cut, Homemade Pate, mayonnaise, Special Banh Mi sauce, pickles and coriander. The pork belly was on the dry side.
What we liked was the Pho Specialty Combo $13.90 which was light yet flavorful as the slow cooked 24hrs Beef Broth contains no msg and sugar. It’s served with generous slices of medium rare beef, beef balls, beef brisket, fresh herbs, beansprouts and onion slices. Perfect to go with the Thai Milk Cloud which was smooth and not too sweet.

❤️ QUÁN ĂN SÁNG ĐỦ MÓN ĐƯỜNG LÊ ĐỘ - BREAKFAST PLACE WITH MANY DISHES TO CHOOSE 😚

Yep, it was my broken-hearted brother took me out for breakfast 🤣 Cuz I literally never went that far from Son Tra district until Le Do st. just to get breakfast ever! He told me he liked the food here a lot and they had 3 interesting dishes for me to try.
At first I ordered the mixed toppings plate with banh mi and sticky rice, but then my brother said I should try them all 🤷 I mean, he paid for it so hjhj 😗 The mixed toppings plate was kinda interesting. It had a bunch of different stuffs : Vietnamese steamed sausages, charsiu pork, fried egg, quail egg, pate and homemade egg mayonnaise. We really liked the chunky pate they had, way better than any other one you could find. The homemade mayonnaise was nice too. Charsiu pork were a bit dry 😅 The sticky rice has pretty much the same toppings as the banh mi, but they added some pork floss and some fried onions. Very well-cooked sticky rice, it went cold after all of the pics I took but still tasted really soft and chewy. Oh and it was the first time I ate homemade mayonnaise with sticky rice, kinda funny but for my brother, he'd eat anything that has mayonnaise 🤣 I'm not a fan of mi quang, but the one they made in there was delicious, well-marinated fish.
Normally, at a place that has a lot of dishes, most of the time they wouldn't nail some of them but here I think they did balance the flavours pretty good. Btw, we saw some perking ducks were being sold there too, smelled so good, gotta try it out some day.

Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches are crazy delicious. Banh mi owns it reputation for having a delicate balance of sweet, savory, sour, spicy, warm, cold, and varying textures. For me, 2 main components to a banh mi must be:
1. Bread (of course) - the bread should be a light framework that holds the fillings in but doesn't scrape the roof of your mouth.
2. Pate - Banh mi without good pate and mayonnaise feels almost naked and incomplete. The pâté must be soft, spreadable and fresh all the time.
Then a combo of #banhmi and #coffee are all the thing I need for breakfast.

Bánh mì (/ˈbæn ˌmiː/; Vietnamese pronunciation: [ɓǎɲ mî]) is a Vietnamese term for all kinds of bread. The word is derived from bánh (bread) and mì (wheat, also spelled mì in northern Vietnam). Bread, or more specifically the baguette, was introduced by the French during its colonial period. The bread most commonly found in Vietnam is a single-serving baguette, which is usually more airy than its Western counterpart, with a thinner crust.
The term bánh mì is also sometimes used as a synecdoche for a "Vietnamese sandwich".
In the Western Hemisphere, especially in areas with substantial Vietnamese expatriate communities, the term is used to refer to a type of meat-filled sandwich on bánh mì bread, found in Vietnamese bakeries. Unlike the traditional French baguette, the Vietnamese baguette is made with rice flour along with wheat flour.[2] Typical fillings include steamed, pan-roasted or oven-roasted seasoned pork belly, Vietnamese sausage, grilled pork, grilled pork patties, spreadable pork liver pâté, pork floss, grilled chicken, chicken floss, canned sardines in tomato sauce, soft pork meatballs in tomato sauce, head cheese, fried eggs, mock duck, and tofu. Accompanying vegetables typically include fresh cucumber slices, cilantro (leaves of the coriander plant) and pickled carrots and daikon in shredded form. Common condiments include spicy chili sauce, sliced chilis, mayonnaise, and cheese.
In the Vietnamese language, these sandwiches would be referred to as e.g. bánh mì xíu mại for a baguette with crushed pork meatball, bánh mì pâté chả thịt for a baguette or sandwich with pâté, Vietnamese sausage and meat, usually pork bellies, since it is the most common kind of meat. Almost all of these varieties are innovations made by or introduced in Saigon and they are known as bánh mì Sài Gòn ("Saigon-Style" banh mi); the most popular form is bánh mì thịt (thịt means "meat"). However, even in Vietnam, "a bánh mì for breakfast" implies a meat-filled sandwich for breakfast, not just bread.
The Vietnamese sandwich, sometimes called a "bánh mì sandwich", is a product of French colonialism in Indochina, combining ingredients from the French (baguettes, pâté, jalapeño, and mayonnaise) with native Vietnamese ingredients, such as cilantro, cucumber, and pickled carrots and daikon.
Bánh mì đặc biệt ("special combo" sandwich)
The classic version, bánh mì thịt nguội, sometimes known as bánh mì đặc biệt or "special combo", is made with various Vietnamese cold cuts, such as sliced pork or pork bellies, chả lụa (pork sausage), and head cheese, along with the liver pâté and vegetables like carrot or cucumbers.

Ingredients
1.5 tsp active dry yeast
180ml (3/4 cup) lukewarm water (at 40-46°C or 105-115°F)
250g (8,82 oz. - less than 2 cups) all-purpose flour (low-protein, unbleached)**
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar (optional)
** I live in Germany and here they don't sell the equivalent of bread flour in the US. So I made this recipe with all-purpose flour (Gloria das Backstarke Weizenmehl Type 550 und Dr. Oetker Hefe). But you are free to try it with bread flour. I guess bread flour will generate better results. You can also try Gold Medal Unbleached All-purpose Flour^^
