Celebrated an early Mother's day with my mom today before MCO 3.0(although I am so confused about the SOPs with piecemeal information being given every few hours) , and we had Maria's Steakcafe Mother's day menu which was really good. We enjoyed the service thoroughly which made my mom feel like a princess and the whole well curated menu. You guys can order it for delivery too till this Sunday to be enjoyed with your mom's. Lets make the best out of this MCO with our mom's ❤

This Sunday afternoon I was focusing on preparing for my upcoming class for teaching Wset 2... so I started with Riesling as it’s one of my favourite white wine varietal that is so sexy with so many different wine styles...

這個週日下午我正在備課下個月要教的WSET2課程，我決定從我最愛的白葡萄品種雷思玲開始～因為這個葡萄品種很像性感的小女人，有超多種不同風貌...

Long story short, I went to a french wine bar this evening, and asked for a glass of Riesling, and got an answer : “oh, we don’t have Riesling, cuz you know we are a french restaurant, that’s a German thing, not us.”

長話短說，我今晚去一間“法式酒吧”用餐，所以我跟服務生點了一杯雷思玲，”結果他們回答我：喔！因為這裡是法式葡萄酒吧，所以我們不會有那種德國的品種。“ 我連問了兩個人都回答我這樣。

OMG, I am so shocked to get this feedback as this is supposed to be a WINE BAR which sharing a bit of knowledge and creating drinking romance place…I‘m sorry but it’s ok you guys don’t want to put riesling on menu on whatever reason, but FRANCE, they do absolutley divine riesling from ALSACE!

OMG 我非常的驚訝，因為既然這裡是葡萄酒吧，就不應該倡導這種錯誤的訊息吧！當然基於各種理由店家可以不放雷思玲在酒單，但是你不可以宣揚錯誤訊息呀～法國在阿爾薩斯有超～～～棒的雷思玲！

And the night didn’t stop from here as I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc from Bordeaux which I was pretty sure it’s corked, and got a reply from them that this is the wine style which smell & taste like news paper...

然後更糟的是之後我點了一杯白酒，我覺得酒的味道有我們最常說的TCA污染，就是說會有潮濕紙箱或是報紙的那種味道，經理出來跟我解釋說這個是這款酒的個性，就是這種報紙的味道...

To be fair I still had a good night as this is an interesting experience, and I don’t let anyone/ anything get on me if I have decided I want a good night.😆 But I just want to say it out loud that, in Alsace, France there are lots of amazing riesling…🥲

其實我還是有一個很好的夜晚，因為當我決定要有很好的夜晚時，我是不會被任何事影響的，但是，我只希望大家知道....法國的阿爾薩斯有著很棒的白葡萄品種雷思玲....

日本の方にとって“Fine”といえば「How are you」の返答の「I'm fine」を思い浮かべる人が多いかと思いますが、昨日の動画レッスン（アメリカ人は「How are you」にどう答えるか実験してみた https://hapaeikaiwa.com/?p=8070）でご紹介したとおり、実際はそのような使い方はほとんどされません。では一体ネイティブは“Fine”はどのように使っているのか？ご紹介しようと思います。

1) I'm fine
→「大丈夫です」
--------------------------------------------------
　
誰かに心配されたり、気に掛けてもらったりした時に 「大丈夫ですよ」 と相手を安心させる一言としての使い方です。例えば、サイクリング中に転んで「Are you ok?（大丈夫ですか？）」と声を掛けられた時に、「I'm fine.（大丈夫です）」と答えます。なお、尋ねる側の人がfineを使うと違和感があるのでokを使いましょう。
　
＜例文＞
　
〜会話例1〜

A: You don't look good. Are you ok?
（顔色が悪いですよ。大丈夫ですか？）

B: I'm fine. I'm just a little tired.
（大丈夫です。ちょっと疲れているだけです。）
　
〜会話例2〜

A: What if he gets on the wrong train? He can't even read Japanese.
（彼が間違って違う電車に乗ったらどうしよう。日本語も読めないし。）

B: He'll be fine. He's traveled to a lot of countries. I'm sure he'll figure it out.
（大丈夫だよ。彼は色々な国に旅行しているんだから自分で何とかするでしょう。）

（息子さんの調子はどうですか？大丈夫ですか？）

B: He's fine. It was just a mild sprain.

2) (No) I'm fine
→「結構です」

相手の申し出や依頼、勧めなどを断る時に使う一言です。例えば、レストランの店員に「ビールをもう一杯いかがですか？」と聞かれた時に「No, I'm fine.（いえ、結構です）」 という具合に使います。「I'm fine」の一言だけでも「結構です」を意味しますが、「No thanks. I'm fine」と言った方が、より丁寧な返答の仕方になります。

〜会話例1〜

A: Would you guys like to see the dessert menu?
（デザートメニューは見られますか？）

B: No thanks. We're fine. Can we get the check, please?
（いえ、結構です。お勘定をお願いします。）
　
〜会話例2〜

A: Do you want me to help you out?
（手伝ってあげましょうか？）

B: I'm fine. I'm almost done.
（もうすぐ終わるので大丈夫です。）

A: Do you need anything from the market?
（コンビニで何かいりますか？）

B: No, I'm fine. Thanks for asking though.
（大丈夫です。お気遣いありがとうございます。）

3) That's fine (with me)
→「それで大丈夫です」
--------------------------------------------------
　
相手が提案したことに対して 「それでいいですよ」や 「それで大丈夫ですよ」 を意味する表現です。例えば、友達に約束の時間を1時間遅らせてもいいかと聞かれた時に「Yeah, that's fine.（ええ、大丈夫ですよ）」と返事をします。「That's fine with me.」と言う人もいますが、どちらでも意味は同じです。
　
✔注意しなければならないのが、前述した通り、状況によっては相手の申し出を断る意味にもなるので、会話の流れでしっかり使い分けする必要があります。基本的には、提案を受け入れるときには 「Yes, that's fine.」、断るときには 「No that's fine.」 と言えば問題ありません。

A: Can we reschedule the meeting to tomorrow?
（明日にミテーィングを変更してもよろしいでしょうか？）

B: Yeah, that's fine. How about 5 p.m. tomorrow?

（申し訳ありません、ペプシーは置いていないのですがコーラでしたらあります。）

（ギフト用のレシートは必要ですか？）

不満や愚痴ばかりをこぼしたりする人や、こちらの提案やアドバイスを全く聞かない人に対して 「もういいよ！」や「わかったよ！」 と怒っている感情やうんざりしている気持ちを示す場合の表現です。「Fine then.」 という表現も同じ意味合いで使われます。

A: It's my friends birthday tonight and I want to hang out with him.
（今夜は友達の誕生日だから彼と一緒に遊びに行きたいんだ。）

B: Fine! Just do what you want then.

（ごめんなさい、今夜は用事が出来て行けません。）

以前、大阪出身の友達と遊んでいる時に「しゃ〜なしやで〜」って英語で何と言うのか聞かれた事があるのですが、その言葉にはどのようなニュアンスがあるのかを説明してもらったうえで（大阪人が言う「しゃ〜なしやで〜」は、別に嫌とも思っていないのに、わざと恩義せがましく相手の要望を受け入れる一種の冗談とのこと）、Fineを面倒くさそうに言うのが最適と思い、そう教えた経験を思い出したので一応シェアーしておこうと思います。(笑)

A: Can you pick me up tomorrow?
（明日、迎えに来てくれへん？）

B: Fine.
（しゃーなしやでー）

I can't even remember the last time we went out for dinner at a restaurant.
The restaurants having recently been reopened, we managed to get a table even without booking, at Chaat!!!
At CHAAT, without a booking! Can you believe it!

We've tried various take aways.
Some of been okay, some have not.
Even the good ones are going to taste better at the restaurant itself.

Chaat... We feel a little bad because we filmed it so last minute.
And the footage doesn't do the food justice.
We are planning to take all our friends back for lunch, and order everything on the menu, and film every dish for you guys???

In this video, I went over to Shin Minori at Katong Square to DESTROY their buffet. Shin Minori is a Japanese buffet that offers over 160 items on their buffet menu, ranging from fresh sashimi (thinly sliced raw meat/fish) to crispy agemono (deep-fried dishes). Do check out their website listed below for their full range of dishes.

However, things did not turn out according to plan as service was unexpectedly slow. The average wait time between orders was easily 30 minutes and a significant number of orders were forgotten, never to arrive. I aimed to demolish 200 pieces of sushi for you guys, but after a laboured 2.5-hour affair, I was defeated only by time and restlessness with a modest 90 pieces of sushi eaten. It was hard to say if it was the robot server Loco who was the culprit, or just a simple manpower issue. They even sent a slice of birthday cake with the candle unlit!

The silver-lining was that the food was genuinely good and well-presented. Not a single dish was unwelcomed in my mouth, while there were a few standouts like the various avocado makis and the bean curd skin sushi. If the food had arrived regularly while maintaining this quality, it would have been a fantastic Japanese buffet experience.

Do head down to Shin Minori (preferably their UE outlet) to satisfy your Japanese cravings!

Additionally, I will be defending my title this weekend at Eatbox (Downtown East) on the 23rd February 2020. The eating contest will start at 5pm so please do come down to watch. I would love to meet you guys!
