Let us be reminded that our Father of Independence, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman was a brilliant #Communicator, #PublicSpeaker and #Leader.
Addressing well over 10 million people from Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and Sabah - An excerpt of his speech from September 16th, 1963 reads:
“The road to nationhood has not been an easy journey. Surprises and disappointments, tension and crisis, have marred the way.
The peoples of Malaysia, however, have endured all trials and tribulations with confidence and patience, calmness and forbearance, with faith in our final goal - Malaysia.”
Here’s wishing you a very happy 64th #IndependenceDay, #Malaysia 🇲🇾 Selamat Hari #Merdeka!

Sabah and Sarawak as EQUAL PARTNERS to Malaya. Why are the details of Sarawak’s Independence on 22 July 1963 and the formation of Malaysia not included in our history books? Sarawakians, especially young Sarawakians, it’s on us to learn about our history and rights.

WE WISH Malaysia 59TH Independence Day 2016
Hari Merdeka (Malaysian for ‘Independence Day’) refers to the day when the Federation of Malaya’s independence from the British Empire was officially declared. At exactly 09:30 on 31 August 1957, the declaration was read by the first Chief Minister of Malaya, Tunku Abdul Rahman at the Merdeka Stadium in the presence of thousands of people including Malay Rulers, members of the federal government, and foreign dignitaries.
To commemorate the event, Hari Merdeka was declared a national holiday in Malaysia and observed annually on 31 August. The day should not be confused with Hari Malaysia (‘Malaysia Day’) that commemorates the formation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963, when North Borneo, Sarawak, and Singapore federated with the existing states of the Federation of Malaya !!
