Skopje, an unusual capital city of North Macedonia. Walking around this city you might be mistaken it with Neo-Classical style cities e.g. Paris or Budapest.
Fun fact: the government spent €560 million to get its current new look in 2015. The project was announced in 2010 as "Skopje 2014". This decision split the nation into two.
Neo-Classical styles monuments and buildings were built to create a new look. Everyone from Byzantine emperor, to Mother Teresa... show even tho this country is small, it has produced great people.
PS: I purposely left Alexander the Great out in this equation because I do not want to offend anyone. I do have a firm opinion where Alexander The Great is from (whether Geeek or Macedonian) and that's not the topic here today. Haha Spread love not hatred. 😍👍🏻
Something interesting about this city is the river Vardar, which marked an informal divide between the Christian and Muslim part of the city. At one side, you see new european buildings, and once you crossed over to old skopje side, the city changes immediately into the grand bazaars Turkish feel (due to Ottoman influence). Good way of looking at it, one stone kill two birds. But for the prosperity of a country, I hope for an integration than a segregation.
Salary is not high here in Macedonia, this may surprise many of you. Yes there are poverty everywhere including Europe. With an average monthly salary as little as 300Euros, you do see poverty here. But people are friendly and nice. As much as I love diversity, I do pray for more peace within the people in this country. If you want to visit cheaper places in Europe, Macedonia is the place to visit. 🥰👍🏻
Whether you are Macedonians, Serbian, Albanians, Kosovan, Greek, Slavic or whatever... living together in harmony is the goal and the only survival as a country and nation.
The past is way too long ago in centuries, the real identity is your future! ❤👍🏻
