It is a pity that it is easier to find restaurants in old Hong Kong theme or that resemble an old Hong Kong Cafe than to find a 50 year-old Hong Kong cafe.
We spent our afternoon in @templestreetcafe earlier this month, having some of the most typical Hong Kong Cha Chaan Tang 茶餐廳food - Pineapple bun with a big slice of butter, milk tea, French Toast and deep-fried chicken wings plus french fries. Three of us ordered four tea sets 🙊 the last one is club sandwich.
Temple Street Cafe 廟街冰室 is an old HK theme cafe situated right next to the Temple Street.

牛排一块(约150g),A steak(about 150g)
面粉30g,30g flour
鸡蛋一个,1 egg
白吐司一片,slice of white toast
配菜:
山药100g,100g Chinese Yam
米饭一小碗,a bowl of rice
卷心菜1/8个,1/8 cabbage
wasabi芥末随意,some wasabi
小葱随意,spring onion
生抽1大勺,1 tbsp light soysauce
木鱼花随意,bonito flakes

For this episode, we headed back to No Signboard Seafood, this time at the Esplanade, to demolish a $1000 Seafood Mee Goreng Challenge! As a belated birthday treat, Sean has again offered to pay for my meal at No Signboard Seafood, this time only allowing Mee Goreng. Naturally, we loaded up the Mee Goreng with the most delectable toppings that No Signboard Seafood has to offer to push the cost to over $1000, making it possibly the most expensive plate of Mee Goreng ever!
No Signboard Seafood specialises in Chinese cuisine, with a focus on seafood, especially the world-famous Chilli Crab. This particular outlet at Esplanade is unique in that it has some Western cuisine available like Boston Lobster Scrambled Eggs with Caviar and pasta dishes. We had to go with Mee Goreng, which is a Malay-style fried noodle dish with a flexible bunch of proteins and vegetables added, tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce.
For my challenge, I ordered 10 servings of Mee Goreng, 3 Whole Boston Lobsters, a bunch of Scallops, 2 Wagyu Steaks and a large ball of Caviar. The staff masterfully plated this feast onto my giant plate, forming a beautiful array. The mee goreng was sweeter and less spicy than most mee gorengs you would find in Singapore, loaded with tofu and shrimp. It was delicious enough to eat on its own and had a deep wok hei aroma to it. The lobsters were plump and juicy, with the tail meat coming off the shell with almost no resistance. They were expectedly sweet and tender, being freshly cooked from the live lobster tanks on-site.
The scallops were stir-fried in XO sauce, pairing the naturally sweet scallops with the strong umami flavour of the sauce, while the steaks were cooked to medium-rare perfection and rich with a deep “beefy” flavour. Finally, the caviar was a surprising addition to mee goreng, usually eaten on its own or on toast with its rich salty flavour. However, it went exceedingly well with the mee goreng as each sweet and savoury bite of the mee goreng was met with pops of salty explosions, complementing one another rather spectacularly.
This meal was so good that I could hardly call it a challenge and I thankfully enjoyed my birthday dinner. カマンベールチーズアレンジ4選
各2人分
生ハムとカマンベールチーズのカナッペ
材料:
カマンベールチーズ 1個(100g)
生ハム
ブラックオリーブ(スライス) 8個
ミニトマト 4個
クラッカー 8枚
粗挽きコショウ 少々
オリーブオイル 適量
イタリアンパセリ 適量
作り方:
1.カマンベールチーズは8等分、ミニトマトは半分に切る。
2.クラッカーに(1)、ブラックオリーブをのせる。
3.オリーブオイル、生ハム、粗挽きコショウをかけ、イタリアンパセリを添えたら、完成!
焼きカマンベールのメープルがけトースト
材料:
カマンベールチーズ 1個(100g)
食パン(厚切り) 1枚
メープルシロップ
バター 5g
粗挽きコショウ 少々
作り方:
1.フライパンを中火に熱し、カマンベールチーズを入れて、じっくりと両面焼き色が付くまで焼く。
2.食パンにバターを塗り、トースターで焼き色が付くまで焼く。
3.皿の上に(2)、(1)の順にのせ、メープルシロップ、粗挽きコショウをかけたら、完成!
カマンベールチーズフライ
材料:
カマンベールチーズ 1個(100g)
卵 1個
薄力粉 大さじ1
カレー粉 小さじ1
パン粉 適量
揚げ油 適量
作り方:
1.カマンベールチーズは6等分に切る。
2.ボウルに卵を溶きほぐし、薄力粉、カレー粉を加えて混ぜ合わせる。
3.(1)を(2)につけて、パン粉をまぶす。
4.フライパンにサラダ油を高さ2cm程入れて180℃に熱し、(3)を入れてきつね色になるまで揚げ焼きにする。油をよく切り、器に盛ったら、完成!
カマンベールチーズバウム
材料:
カマンベールチーズ 1/2個(50g)
バウムクーヘン 1個
つぶあん 大さじ4
シナモン 適量
作り方:
1.バウムクーヘンに粒あんを塗る。
2.カマンベールチーズを薄切りにして、(1)の上にのせる。
3.トースターでチーズが溶けるまで5-7分ほど焼く。バターナイフで軽く平らにならし、お好みでシナモンをかけたら完成!

8 black olives

1. Cut camembert cheese into 6 pieces and cherry tomatoes in half.
2. Put cheese, tomatoes (1), and black olives on crackers.
3. Pour olive oil and season with black pepper. Top with Italian parsley.

Grilled camembert toast with maple syrup
INGREDIENTS
1 camembert cheese (100g)
1 slice bread
maple syrup
5g butter
A pinch black pepper
PREPARATION
1. Heat a pan over medium heat. Place camembert and cook both sides until browned.
2. Spread butter on a bread and toast until golden.
3. Place the camembert (1) on the toast. Pour maple syrup and put some black pepper.
4.Enjoy!
Deep fried camembert
INGREDIENTS
1 camembert cheese (100g)
1 egg
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon curry powder
Some bread crumbs
Some vegetable oil
PREPARATION
1. Cut camembert cheese into 6 pieces.
2. Beat an egg in a bowl. Add all-purpose flour and curry powder.
3. Dip the cheese (1) in the egg (2), then coat with panko breadcrumbs.
4. Heat 2cm of vegetable oil in a pan to 180℃. Fry the cheese (3) until golden. Make sure to drain excess oil.
5.Enjoy!
Camembert baumkuchen
INGREDIENTS
1/2 camembert cheese (50g)
1 baumkuchen
4 tablespoons mashed red bean paste (Tsubu-an)
Some cinnamon
PREPARATION
1. Spread red bean paste on baumkuchen.
2. Slice camembert, and put on (1).
3. Grill in a toaster oven until cheese melted, about 5 to 7 minutes. Flatten the cheese with a butter knife. and sprinkle some cinnamon.
4.Enjoy!
