1907年,上海中西大藥房董事長周邦俊醫師參考《中華藥典》一書,以酒精加上玫瑰、茉莉等多種花香精調配而成花露水,取名為「明星花露水」,由化妝品部門銷售。
1929年,周邦俊的長女周文璣接手經營藥房,並創辦明星香水肥皂廠,將化妝品部門獨立成公司,以大量生產與擴大經營。對日抗戰勝利後,公司與工廠員工曾多達數千人,產量超過一千萬瓶,並在上海證券交易市場掛牌上市。之後因為國共內戰,周家財產充公,1949年周文璣以結束香港的倉庫為理由,帶著配方輾轉逃到香港,而後再到臺灣。
1951年,周文璣與早先(1946年)在臺北市設立分公司的錢一清、張明湧、張廷玉、謝兆裕等人決定重新開始,成立明星化工股份有限公司,生產花露水與爽身粉,一推出後即風靡全臺,供不應求。
在1960至1970年代,明星花露水成為當時女性的必備品,但隨後因為消費習慣的改變、平均收入的提高及其它外來香水產品的競爭,明星花露水的銷售開始每況愈下。
1972年底,明星化工公司董事長周文璣代表中國國民黨參選中華民國第一屆第一次增額立法委員並順利當選(1973-1976),之後她又當選中華民國第一屆第二次增額立法委員(1976-1981)。
1978年,明星化工將公司及廠房遷移至臺北縣土城鄉。
1998年,周文璣過世,由張明湧接任董事長。
2003年,由於SARS(嚴重急性呼吸道症候群)在臺灣爆發,明星花露水因為酒精濃度約73%,與稀釋後的消毒用酒精相近,所以在當時意外成為熱門商品。
明星花露水最初問世時,乃定位為女性使用的香水,但因其酒清濃度高,亦常被用作其他用途如下:
醒腦—當有昏睡感時,擦在太陽穴或人中部位,或在洗澡時滴在浴缸,具有提神功效。
祛臭—噴灑在廁所或其它有異味的場所,或是抹、灑在身上以去除體味。
止癢—塗抹在被蚊蟲叮咬的部位。
消毒—噴灑或塗抹在需要消毒的地方,如電話的話筒,或是居家四週。
飲用—由於明星花露水所含的酒精是食用酒精,因而早期派駐在禁酒的中東回教國家的臺灣榮工處員工,就以花露水加水來解酒癮。(這裡要特別提醒大家,可千萬別把明星花露水當酒喝!國內曾有婦人喝了它,結果發生昏睡、氣喘的症狀,血中酒精濃度高達200多度,差點連命都沒了!它的瓶身外包裝上清楚印著不可食用。)
醒酒—在熱毛巾上灑數滴花露水,再敷在醉酒者的臉上及後腦,有醒酒止吐的效果。
在臺灣生產的明星花露水,除了正面有代表明星化工產品標誌的明星跳舞圖繪之外,外裝上另標有「越陳越香」的字樣,成為明星花露水的一大特色。

檸檬 ── 性溫,能開胃消滯、生津止渴、消暑、安胎。能紓緩炎夏的無胃口、消化不良、潤膚及改善色斑等美顏功效。

Many factors cause bad breath. Among them are poor oral hygiene and periodontal diseases. Not drinking enough water can lead to a decrease in salivation, hence, causing the mouth to become dry. Constipation and dampness accumulation in the intestines and stomach are also the main causes of bad breath.
To get rid of bad breath, we should get to the root of the problem. We can consume an appropriate amount of drinks that are made from mint, osmanthus, and lemon to keep our breath fresh. Avoid adding sugar to these drinks! These drinks can get rid of the bad odor in the mouth especially after having a heavy meal like hotpot and barbecue.
Sweet osmanthus - warm in nature. Calms the mind, warms the stomach to relieve pain.
Mint - cool in nature, and can dispel wind-heat, alleviate flu-related headaches, swollen and sore throat, mouth ulcers, hot cough with yellow phlegm, and toothache. Mint can also relieve pain caused by rubella infection and indigestion, as well as freshen one’s breath. Nonetheless, individuals with yin deficiency should not consume mint excessively.
Lemon - warm in nature and can stimulate appetite and relieve stagnancy, promote fluid production and quench thirst, clear summer heat, and stabilize pregnancy. It alleviates summer heat related symptoms such as lack of appetite and indigestion, and it can also moisten skin and improve discoloration on skin.

Loud or smelly farts – which is better?
Farting is a normal biological process, and a normal person will fart on a daily basis. Yet, we are constantly embarrassed by its sound and smell. There is a saying ‘loud farts do not smell, and smelly farts are silent’, so between loud and smelly farts, which do you prefer?
Farting regularly means the body is circulating well, and the bowel movement should be normal. However, if excessive flatulence occurs, the person might be experiencing indigestion or has a weak spleen or stomach.
Individuals with qi stagnation or those who are under a lot of stress would tend to fart more frequently. Since the circulation of the qi was disrupted, the body has to release the gas more regularly. It is best to consume ingredients that can soothe the qi and the liver, such as dried citrus peel, rose flower, jasmine flower, white radish, and loofah to improve this condition.
The volume of a fart is associated with the gas’ expulsion velocity around the external anal sphincter, and the process is generally uncontrollable. As for unpleasant odor, we can improve the condition by adjusting our diets. Individuals with a damp heat body constitution, meat lovers, heavy drinkers, and those who enjoy fat, greasy, spicy, and heavily flavored foods would tend to pass foul-smelling gas. Consume an appropriate amount of mung bean, rice bean, coix seed, and winter melon. These ingredients can clear the heat and dispel dampness from the body to reduce the smell of farts.
