Iverson wear's Erving's No. 6
As he said he would, Allen Iverson wore Julius Erving's No. 6 for Sunday's NBA All-Star Game.
Iverson normally wears No. 3 for the Philadelphia 76ers, but wanted to do something as a tribute to one of the city's basketball legends.
"It felt good," Iverson said. "I think I'm going to do it next year."
The new number did not bring any good luck.
The MVP of last year's game, Iverson scored just five points on 2-of-9 shooting.
He also confused his 4-year-old son, Deuce.
"After the game, my son asked my why did I have somebody else's number," Iverson said. "I mean, he don't really know right now.
"I'll explain it to him later on, but it was just an honor. It was fun."
The plan to wear Erving's jersey has been three years in the making.
The City of Brotherly Love was supposed to host the 1999 All-Star Game, which was canceled due to the lockout.
Leading up to that game, Iverson said he wanted to wear Erving's number and take the braids out of his hair to sport an afro similar to the one Erving used to have.
This time, Iverson kept with his plan to wear the jersey, but kept his hair in cornrows.
"I'm talking about that afro I heard he was going to wear," Michael Jordan joked on Saturday.
