As I’ve mentioned before, one of the 9 subjects I’m taking for GCSE this year is Drama. This, of course, calls for a lot of scriptwriting, performance work, designing and whatnot, but there’s only one thing left that we can do that’s both helpful and really enjoyable...watching live theatre!

Live theatre is not only an essential part of the Drama GCSE course, but it’s also one of the students’ favourite parts of the course, aside from our actual performances, of course. This time around, we went after school on Wednesday evening to watch the 25th anniversary performance of #EastisEast at The Birmingham Rep Theatre. Originally based on the film from 1996, and adapted into the 1999 film, the story follows the daily life of a Pakistani family in England in the 70s, trying to live both a traditional Pakistani lifestyle and fit into 1970s England as well. The play was directed by Iqbal Khan, an Old Edwardian - yep, he is one of the alumni of King Edward’s School as well! He is also the Associate Director for the Birmingham Repertory Theatre - amazing 👀

I must say, the entirety of the show was amazing, from start to finish - it’s no wonder why the story won the awards it has! The writing, the set design, the costume, the cast, all of it was absolutely brilliant, and made for a great night out and a highly enjoyable start to this part of the GCSE Drama course. I can’t express just how much I enjoyed the show - well done to the team!

Finally, I am in Toronto. It’s been 9 days I am here. Isolating myself before I start meeting people. Though I was not asked to quarantine, but I am still trying to take as much precautions I can. Other than very early morning walk, I am restricting my movement until tomorrow! Then I will start my fall adventure. Eeeeeeeee I am super excited. BTW, this picture is from last summer, I don’t have such long hair anymore. 🙈

I travelled back home to be with my parents for a month only, and end up living with them for 9 months! No regrets! It’s a huge blessing that I could be with my parents during pandemic, and monitor them closely. I can totally understand the feeling of those who are living far away from their loved ones. Specially during this pandemic. So I thank my lucky stars that I could be with them for such long time. I hope and pray all of our family members and friends, who are living away from us, stay safe. Amen!

"Yamaokaya" popular classic ramen! I visited the "Ramen Yamaokaya" and had "Negi Shoyu Ramen". It seems that this is basically scheduled until the middle of June, but depending on the sales at each store, it may end ahead of schedule. The Yamaokaya's soy sauce ramen is a basic and popular menu that has been loved for a long time. A cup of soup made with pork bones cooked in a shop with soft green onions. I'm looking forward to it. It may be a feature of the "Yamaokaya" that there are services from the perspective of repeaters and customers who come by car, such as the service that you can receive by presenting your JAF membership card and collecting stubs, as well as being particular about such taste.
