🔍 Stage 5: Interview
When applying for a landscape architecture job in the UK, receiving an interview notice is usually a sign that your success rate is relatively high!
Some applicants get the job after a combination of one phone call + face-to-face interview while some others get it immediately after one face-to-face interview. Larger landscape companies typically have a longer but simpler interview procedure as compared to other industries: telephone interview ➡️ online test ➡️ professional ability test ➡️ face-to-face interview.
This reveals how important the resume and portfolio is for landscape architects to find a job. Especially the portfolio which showcases your abilities, leaving the final procedure which is an interview!
🔺 Part 1 : View from the company perspective – 4 different interview purposes
1️⃣ Confirming that the portfolio works are from you.
In-depth discussion of your works, to understand how you perceive and conceive projects as a means of confirming if the company’s expectations of you are aligned with what they have in mind, and vice versa.
2️⃣ Your personality & character.
To confirm if you can integrate into the company culture and that you can fit into their current team.
3️⃣ Your understanding of the job position.
✔️ To confirm your grasp of the industry or job position. As well as your understanding of the importance of the role you will play within the company.
✔️Assess if your demonstrated abilities fulfil the requirements of the job position.
✔️Your views on the challenges of the job position and career prospects.
4️⃣ Your passion.
Let the company sense your passion and enthusiasm you have for the industry and job position. It is important to know that interviews are not only for the company to evaluate if you qualify for the position, it is also for you to understand if you have the confidence to handle the job position and if you feel comfortable integrating into the office culture and environment.
Should the atmosphere of the interview turn out pleasant, it a pretty good sign that you are not that far from clinching the job. On the contrary, if the interview turned out to be quite short, tedious, or not as what you expected, don’t be disappointed and discouraged because the company might not be for you!

Some people believe you have to be really smart to make it.
They say...
“You have to know something no one else does to be successful.”
Or...
“You have to come up with a unique business idea.”
But is that the truth?
Can you really only be successful if you are also smart?
Well…before I let you know what I think, let me share with you a short story...
Back in my early 20s, just a little after I first got started in business, I would attend this elite mastermind that my mentor Alan Jacques was a part of...
And while everyone would sit in a circle talking about very their large business problems - I would sit far back in the corner intimidated.
“I don’t even know what they’re talking about.”
“No wonder they’re so successful.”
But I kept going.
And after a while, the strangest thing happened.
I started understanding what they were talking about. And I started to get comfortable around them.
And then it hit me.
Even though these guys were 10x more successful than me…
It was impossible they could be 10x smarter than me.
And they couldn’t possibly be 10x more hardworking than me too.
So it didn’t matter to me anymore if I was the smartest or not.
All that mattered was my attitude towards success.
Because I realized…
Success Is More About Attitude Than IQ.
I can see why people think that you have to be super smart to be successful...
When you look at Warren Buffet, Elon Musk, and Bill Gates, it seems like they’re all successful because of how smart they are.
But what about all the other smart people in the world?
What about 99.99% of smart people that never make it?
If success was about IQ, why aren’t they also successful?
You see, I believe that what really matters is not your IQ - but your attitude.
It’s true that Warren Buffet, Elon Musk, and Bill Gates are smart.
But would they be anywhere near where they are today if they didn't also work hard, remain persistent and learn from other people?
I don’t think so.
And that’s what many people overlook.
There are so many talented and gifted people out there that never achieve anything in their life - simply because they are too lazy.
And because they have the wrong attitude.
When I was getting started, I can tell you right now - I wasn’t at all talented at what I do.
I’m not a native English speaker, I’m not naturally good at speaking, and I was definitely not naturally good at writing.
But because I had the right attitude. And because I worked harder than anyone else - I made it.
If you do the same, who knows what you’ll be able to achieve…
Keep learning and keep growing.
Another thing that is common among successful people is that they have high-income generating skills.
Skills that they can bring to the marketplace and produce incredible value whenever they want, as much as they want.
To find out which one of these skills matches your personality best - I’ve got a free personality test ready for you here...

ALLEN IVERSON played with a chip on his shoulder the size of Gibraltar. It was his fuel.
Sometimes that fuel flooded the engine, but Iverson never backed off a challenge. Maybe it was because of his childhood growing up in Hampton, Va., where he was the man of the house at a too-young age. Maybe it was seeing people from the neighborhood getting killed or going to prison. Maybe it was being imprisoned - wrongly, he believed - and missing out on his senior year of basketball. Or maybe because he was usually the smallest player on the court, feeling he had to prove himself every minute, showing everyone that size doesn't matter.
Whatever the reason, whether we agree with the method, the personality or the background, it all made Allen Iverson one of the fiercest competitors ever to play the game.
On March 12, 1997, as his rookie season was reaching the finish line, Iverson and the Sixers were facing the NBA champion Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan.
Iverson lit up the Bulls, tying a then-career high with 37 points, although the Sixers, despite a solid showing, bowed to the Bulls, 108-104.
But what defined this game was one move, Iverson's signature, the crossover.
Ever since his high school days, Iverson talked about the mastery of the move on the master, Michael Jeffrey Jordan.
"I used to always tell my friends that when I get on that stage, I'm going to try my move on the best," Iverson said.
Late in the game, Jordan found himself guarding the cocky rookie out of Georgetown and wasn't about to back down. And Iverson, like the young shooter taking on the old gunslinger, wasn't about to back down from a challenge.
"A lot of guys, when you see guys that you kinda looked up to, they kinda shy away from the challenge," Iverson said. "And I just took it on."
Iveron's hair was short and his collection of tattoos small, reminding us how young he was on this night.
He rocked Jordan once with a small crossover and then dropped the big one, moving to his right and swishing a 20-foot jumper just ahead of the flailing Jordan. The crowd at the CoreStates Center, anticipating what was about to occur, rose and erupted in joy. Our guy went one-on-one with the greatest player ever and our guy won, they were thinking. At that moment, Philly fell in love with Allen Iverson. He was ours. He was our David to the NBA's Goliath. We had a star, too.
"I don't think I planned it," said Iverson, who had faced the Bulls twice before, but the situation to try the move never materialized.
"I'll never forget coming off a screen and him switching and [coach] Phil Jackson hollering his name, telling him to switch out on me," Iverson recalled. "And I gave him the first little one, and I see that he's biting on it. And I hit him with the second one and made the shot."
Without making the shot, the move becomes an afterthought.
"I was going to put my move to the test, to see if it was real," Iverson said. "It had to be real if it worked on the greatest player to ever play the game. That made me feel good."
Watch the video carefully next time and you'll see what made Jordan such a great player.
"The craziest thing about it is, I hit him with my best move, and he still almost blocked it," Iverson said, laughing at the moment. "That's what was so crazy about it. That just let's you know how great a defensive player he was."
Two great players showing their stuff. Where have those days gone around here?
