An 85-year old Taiwanese man and his son who tested positive for the novel coronavirus in February after contracting the disease on the Diamond Princess, have recovered following treatment at a hospital in Japan, where the cruise ship was docked. They returned to Taiwan in March.
A total of 24 Taiwanese -- 22 passengers and two crew members -- were on the ship which had been in quarantine off the Japanese city of Yokohama for more than 14 days, after the coronavirus was detected in a passenger who had disembarked.
The father and son thanked the Taiwanese authorities for helping them eventually get tested so they could get off the ship and receive treatment at a hospital.
They urged people required to be quarantined to follow the rules and also urged society to not stigmatize coronavirus patients.

Was shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic sinking of the passenger ship “Eastern Star” in the Yangtze River on Monday. Search and rescue ops are still going on. I hope more survivors will be found soon. My thoughts are with the affected families during this difficult period. – LHL
