4月12號在朋友教書的女校講Talk（Eng Lit），昨夜想到一個絕妙的題目：
Oscar Wilde： Anarchist, Socialist, and Feminist
引用Sos Eltis寫的書Revisitig Wilde: society and subversion in the plays of Oscar Wilde, Oxford Claredon Press 1996 第一章title。這Oxford英文系fabulous教授13年出了一本Acts of Desire: Women and Sex on Stage, 1800-1930 添。絕對適合女校女生怒看。
淨解下三個題目concepts都可能用一半時間，特別最後一個。十分期待。四月13號又要自己系的大presentation，看來錄音／拍on居MV要延後lu。

今年第1課後

Dear Professor Chau,
Hi, I really love your class this evening and I can't help sharing with you some of my feelings as soon as I arrived home. Firstly, I would like to deliver my great thanks to you. Thank you very much for bringing us so much fun tonight and your passion when teaching inspires me with desire to learn more.
One of the funniest parts in the class was playing the game session. I remembered the class's great surprise and curiosity when you changed the number from time to time while messing up all our previous clues and algorithms....
The two lessons I learnt from tonight's game experience is "jumping out of stereotype" and "be concentrate". As for the first lesson, just as other classmates easily got lost in the seemingly maths problem, I fell in the previous solving problem stereotype of "counting the words" and minded about the way you talked. After false verification, I felt puzzled. Then, I realized how stupid I was to think about solving all puzzles with one key. Sometimes, we need to jump out of our own stereotypes and think hard on finding another clue. Regarding to the second lesson, it is to be concentrate. In life or in work, we tend to be distracted by other things instead of the thing itself. People seems easily be attending to trifles while neglecting of essentials. Sometime, just putting a pair of keen eyes on the essentials may lead us to a totally new realm.
Also, I have some thoughts about the practical translating experiences you presented to us. One of the most impressive one is the Australian restaurant advertisement translation. On the first sight, I thought it was a broken translation with some contents missing and some meaning distorted. Nevertheless, I found that it is the lack of my own understanding about Western culture that led me to the mistaken assumption. I got some training on language and culture in undergraduate study but when it comes to translation and culture, I have little experience. Clearly, they have connections and I need to sort it out. I remembered a saying by Oscar Wilde and I paraphrase "the art of translation is concealment of the art or act of translation". As far as I am concerned, the concealment art is to make the readers of the target language interpret and feel the thing that the writer want them to grasp without any awkward understandings. Therefore, a comprehensive and clear understanding about the "target" culture seems a necessity for translators.
Here are some of my premature thoughts after the first "enlightenment". :) And sorry for my babbling. Mostly I want to express I really enjoy the class. Thank you very much!
