What a great day last night. After finished the race, I got back to the hotel. Had lunch and the have a short nap. Then say goodby to my friend @bashirabdi204
Then I received a message on Instagram from a Malaysian, Nik who based in Newcastle and they would like to invite me to come over to the race site for Nasi Lemak as they have set up a camp at the field next to it over there there, together with a group of Malaysian (Akmal, Mahat, Shu, Hilmi) and other members.
Took a 2 mile walk from the hotel that I stayed to their camp, and throughout the journey, I got to see the runners still doing their run. Last 2 mile to the finishing line. Gave them some cheer and motivate them to keep going. Jog or brisk walk, don't stop.
Super happy to have Malaysian food - Nasi lemak over there. We have a great time chatting and sharing about the race experience and got to know more about each other.
Later I got invited to one of their house, Abang Jamal, for coffee time and dinner. Got to meet their family members at his home and they are all so kind and thoughtful. Brought up some cakes, snacks, of course coffee ☕.
Warm welcome from them and then we had dinner together (kuey teow ladna, chicken, basmati rice).
We exchanged ideas, thoughts and sharing of our own experiences. I got to learn some new valuable information from them.
Then Abang Jamal fetch me back to the hotel at 10pm. Once I entered the lobby of the hotel, I got to see the Elite Athletes like @kingcheserek
@shazrine @bygolly.molly @stewy_mac3 @galenruppofficial @charlottepurdue
And the organizer, Matt.
And so I joined them. We have a great time laughing, talking, chatting. They are really funny and lovely. Super happy to spend time with them. Forgot to take a wefie for this moment! 😭
Enjoy the atmosphere so much. Wanna visit the 👑 @kingcheserek definitely after the Empire State Building Run Up and to train with them.

I am looking forward already to come back to Newcastle for the Great North Run 2022 and this time I will be prepare for it and to hit a much faster timing (perhaps the NR!).

和大部分同齡的人一樣，我對Johnny Cash的認知只有「五、六零年代的鄉村歌手」
幾個字。
那個時代畢竟過於遙遠（雖然Bob Dylan還是聽的），曲風也不是我喜歡的形式
（「連Bob Dylan都插電了！」片中說），但畢竟是美國樂史上的傳奇人物（雖然
宣傳海報上寫著「美國版雙J戀」令人絕倒），而我對這種電影向來是沒有抵抗力
的（我對很多電影都沒有抵抗力）。
影片採倒敘法進行，一開始的場景就是福桑監獄。獄友在臺下鼓譟、樂團在臺上尷
尬地重覆相同旋律，面面相覷地等待主角出場。主角當然是Johnny Cash，他在後台
的鋸輪前，用手指輕輕觸動齒尖，掉進童年的回憶。
那是一個窮困的童年，微弱的燭光下，June Carter的歌聲從收音機傳來，是被喚作
JR的Johnny Cash夜裡的撫慰；那是一個有著橄欖綠棉花田的童年，和母親一同唱歌
採收棉花、和哥哥肩並肩走在黃褐色的田間小路，還有寧靜的大河，讓他一心期待著
週末和哥哥一同垂釣。但事發週末，卻只剩血紅的記憶，在木工房裡賺取外快以維持
家計的哥哥喪生在鋸輪前，他從此失去最親密的伴侶，從此不被父親諒解。
成年後的JR遠離殘破的老家，前往空軍服役，期間已經抱起吉他寫了不少歌曲。退伍
後結婚並居住在貓王的故鄉Memphis，從事推銷員的工作。Jonny並不是個成功的業務，
處處碰壁的他在街上遊蕩，卻透過一扇窗窺視錄音間裡樂器和鳴的美妙，於是找了幾
個朋友共組樂團，以演唱福音歌曲自娛，並希望錄製專屬的唱片。
或許因為在教會學校待了六年，我對福音音樂有些敏感，連BRMC幾首帶有 ”Jesus”
字眼的歌曲，聽到都莫名奇妙地感到不自在（不過”God”就不會，因為它是語氣詞，
哈），但它（或者該說「祂」）卻是許多樂手的啟蒙，Johnny Cash、June Carter都
是從這裡開始。
可惜Johnny Cash演唱的福音音樂並沒有受到唱片公司賞識，因為那不是切身的情感，
不具說服力，無法讓人信任、仰望。「如果你現在出了車禍奄奄一息，上帝只給你一個
機會唱一首歌，你會唱什麼？你會怎麼讓世人記住你？」Johnny抱著木吉他，緩緩唱出
自己的創作，如此真切、誠懇地道盡社會百態，不僅使他獲得唱片合約，也成為他日後
歌曲最大的特色－強烈的寫實色彩深入底層，時而無奈、時而諷刺、時而反抗，卻又保
有福音音樂正面、激勵的精神。
Johnny開始巡迴演出，在舞臺上遇見June Carter。當時Johnny 的第二個孩子正要出生，
父親與妻子嚴苛的要求也壓得他喘不過氣；而人前調皮風趣，私底下深沉穩重的June剛結
束一段破碎的婚姻，她在乎世人的評價、她顧慮家人的感受，所以兩人的戀情並非天雷勾
動地火般熱烈。事實上，美麗、理性、才華洋溢的June早已成了Johnny情感的出口；但
June始終壓抑著自己、刻意保持距離，以友人的姿態扶持Johnny。全片沒有可歌可泣的談
情說愛，但發乎情、止乎禮的微妙關係卻更引人入勝。
Johnny Cash與June Carter在美國迅速竄紅，但伴隨名聲、金錢而來的往往是脫序的生活
。史上著名的樂手、歌手，大抵都脫離不了菸、酒、性、藥的糾葛，或許因為創作本身是
低賤的，它滋長在最痛苦的地獄，成就在極樂的天堂，於是外物刺激帶他們遠離世俗，用
生命換取非凡的藝術傑作。
以上說法未免顯得矯情脫罪，那換個說法：「千萬不要買毒品，」「只要成為搖滾巨星，
人家自然會免費送給你。」（出自《Love Actually》（愛是您，愛是我）的經典橋段）
相同的道理，女人也一樣。當然不見得完全免費，但是當那些鮮美誘人的蘋果就在門口，
誰又能拒絕？墮落似乎成為偉大藝術家難以避免的生命危機（不偉大的也可能墮落，but
who care?!）。Johnny Cash因為持毒被逮捕入獄，如同那曾讓千萬人傾心的歌詞；妻子
帶著女兒們離去，留下他繼續沉迷毒癮；賴以維生的演藝事業也宣告終止，直到June幫助
他走出黑暗、東山再起，世局已經變了模樣。
那是六零年代後期，搖滾樂的浪潮一發不可收拾（Bob Dylan的Blonde on Blonde專輯封
面就掛在唱片公司牆上），誰還要聽老土的鄉村音樂？還有過時的福音歌曲，早就在反動
的社會中瓦解了信仰，Johnny Cash的歌還能感動人心嗎？一九六八年，從監獄走進教堂
的Johnny再次走回曾經熟悉的牢籠，將救贖、歡樂帶給他的同伴，這張現場錄音的專輯＜
At Folsom Prison＞登上當年度暢銷榜首，也帶領Johnny Cash與June Carter持續源源不
絕的創作，直到２００３年兩人相繼去世，成為歌壇上少見終成眷屬、白頭偕老的愛侶典
範。
電影中所有的表演場面皆由男女主角Joaquin Phoenix和Reese Witherspoon親自上陣，歌
聲出乎意外的好（可惜沒聽過Johnny Cash和June Carter真人版的演唱，無從比較），
Joaquin渾厚的嗓音、Reese的南方口音都增添那個時代的氣息。而片名《Walk the Line
》和中文翻譯《為你鍾情》到底有什麼關係？它出自Johnny Cash１９５７年首張專輯＜
Johnny Cash With His Hot and Blue Guitar＞中的< I Walk the Line >，歌詞內容就
是深情款款的傾訴，即便這份愛如此冒險，我也願意為你走在鋼索上。
