Bộ phim về nguồn gốc The Joker do studio mới của DC Comics (hiện chưa có tên) có vẻ đã ngắm được diễn viên đóng vai nhân vật chính - diễn viên Joaquin Phoenix (Her, The Master, Gladiator, Sign, ...).

Báo Variety có viết rằng: "Sau một thời gian suy nghĩ, ông Phoenix, đã đồng ý nhận vai". Tuy nhiên, theo nghiên cứu của Phê Phim, đến giờ vẫn chưa có động tĩnh gì từ phía Warner Brothers cả.

Bộ phim về Joker mới này nếu được thực hiện, sẽ không nằm trong DCEU của WB, tức là sẽ không thuộc vũ trụ của Man of Steel; Batman v Superman; Suicide Squad hay Justice League. Điều này đồng nghĩa với việc Joker của Joaquin Phoenix và Joker của Jared Leto, mặc dù cùng 1 nhân vật truyện tranh, nhưng trên màn ảnh lớn sẽ không liên quan gì đến nhau.

Ngoài bộ phim về Joker, studio mới chưa có tên kia cũng sẽ thực hiện các tác phẩm về Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash hay các nhân vật khác để mở rộng thêm câu chuyện của họ.
