My friend who's passed beyond the blue

It pains me still, to know you've left
This world, a passing much too soon

Of all the times we shared among
The champions of a rising sun
The valiant heroes of Taiwan
A time we thought would never come

My friend, I wonder if you knew
The legend you had come to be
In Formosan democracy
The steward of our gathering ground
Our watering hole, our Phoenix found
Tonight I raise this glass to you
But how it feels one glass too few
Among the hundreds drunk before
The ones that laid us on the floor
We glorious inebriates
Devoted to the betterment
Of this sweet Isle, such pain endured
With glass held high, we held the cure
Or so we thought, but none the less
In my recall, I take a breath
I shed a tear, in thanks renewed
