台灣民謠金屬樂團 Crescent Lament 恆月三途，將於2020年底推出第三張專輯 —【噤夢 Land of Lost Voices】。【噤夢】以終戰後國民政府來台前期的台灣社會為背景，除了在音樂上融入更豐富的民俗樂器，也將上張專輯【花殤 Elegy for the Blossoms】的主角阿香再度帶入歌曲中，藉著藝妲阿香與戀人明風兩人未完的緣分，娓娓道出歷史洪流中台灣人民遭遇的悲傷故事。

……如同那年代無數台灣有志青年，受過現代教育的明風，對台灣的未來懷抱無比熱忱。1947年3月8日，即將出門的明風說道：「聽講基隆港咧欲出代誌矣，為著妳佮囡仔的未來，我愛去看覓（聽説基隆港快要出事了，為了妳跟孩子的將來，我必須去看看）。」接著他擁著阿香，繼續說：「我下暗就會轉來。若是趕袂轉來，我會先去社寮島的阿兄兜蹛一暝（我傍晚就會回家。倘若趕不回來，我會先去社寮島的大哥家住一晚）。」

然而，明風再也沒有回來。隔日，阿香從鄰居口中得知，中國來的援軍已從基隆港登陸，船還沒靠岸就架起機槍掃射民眾，岸上軍隊也沿街瘋狂開槍；成群學生被軍隊割掉耳鼻及生殖器後，用刺刀戳死；其餘沒死的市民被軍隊抓起來，三、五人一組遭鐵線刺穿手掌足踝，串成一排排帶到港邊，朝頭上開一槍後踢到海裡。幾天後，浮起的屍體漂滿基隆港，隨著浪一波波打回岸邊。阿香經不起如此巨大打擊，終日以淚洗面。

Crescent Lament’s third album "Land of Lost Voices" will be released on December 11, 2020. A sequel to our second album, the story continues from where "Elegy for the Blossoms" left off: the unfinished romance between A-hiong and her lover, Bîng-hong. They once believed that they would not see each other again, but fate has brought them back together. They would go through the collapse of Taiwanese society in the post-WWII era, experience horrifying days that were even more miserable than wartime, and finally witness the destined tragedy of the 228 Incident.

The current MV “By the Lone Light” recounts the bereavement that A-hiong suffered, after realizing Bîng-hong has died from the indiscriminate massacre in March 1947.

(Excerpt from the lyrics booklet)…… Like all young Taiwanese of that era, Bîng-hong, who had received modern education, was passionate about Taiwan’s future. “I heard something happened at Keelung harbor, I need to check it for you and our kid,” Bîng-hong told A-hiong before he headed out on 8 March 1947. “I’ll be back in the evening—if I don’t return before nightfall, I’ll spend the night at my brother’s home at Sia Liao Island,” he said, giving A-hiong a hug as he left.

Bîng-hong never came home. The next day, A-hiong heard from neighbors that Chinese troops landed in Keelung the day before, and started shooting people with machine guns even before the vessels docked. Troops on land also shot people indiscriminately on the streets. Groups of students had their noses, ears, and genitals cut off, before being stabbed with bayonets. Those who survived were arrested by soldiers, and strung up with barbed wire through their palms and ankles. Then, they were shot in the back of their heads, and kicked into the harbor. Days later, innumerable floating bodies blocked the harbor, and piled up on the shore. A-hiong could not take it anymore, and was in tears all day.

Bîng-hong’s body was never found. In the following two months, the KMT government violently cracked down on uprisings, and purged rebels across Taiwan. Around 20,000 civilians were murdered by the troops, most of whom belonged to the young generation. Doctors, lawyers, professors, and councilors were executed in large numbers, and an entire generation was muted……(Excerpt from the lyrics booklet)

[Apply Story] - Phụ nữ lớn tuổi có gia đình, có con nhỏ, không có tiền có thể đi du học được không?

Hôm trước bạn Hoa Dinh có nhắn tin, nhờ mình chia sẻ về việc học của mình để khích lệ những phụ nữ lớn tuổi, có gia đình, có con nhỏ, hay là mẹ đơn thân , không có nhiều tiền, và lớn lên ở vùng quê/thành phố nhỏ không có nhiều điều kiện học tập vẫn có thể thực hiện ước mơ du học và làm việc tại nước ngoài.

Mình tên thật là Hoàng Thục Nhi, mình U50 rồi, nhưng vẫn nghĩ mình còn trẻ hihi. Mình lấy bằng tiến sĩ về Giáo dục tại Phần Lan khi đã bước qua tuổi 40.

Hiện nay thì mình là giảng viên và làm nghiên cứu tại một trường ĐH công lập ở đông Phần lan, Trường mình là một trong những trường đại học lớn và thuộc top 7 của Phần lan. Mình dạy môn Phương Pháp Nghiên Cứu Khoa Học Định Lượng ( Quantitative Research Method), năm nay mình dạy thêm môn Approach to Special Education in Finland ( tạm dịch Tiếp cận Giáo Dục Đặc Biệt ở Phần lan). Ngoài ra mình còn làm việc tại trường ĐH Aalto , school of sciences, ngành Industrial Engineering and Management. Trường ĐH Aalto là trường chuyên về công nghệ, kỹ thuật, trường thuộc top 2 của Phần Lan

Nhìn lại quá trình học vấn thì mình thấy mình cũng may mắn. Nhà mình đông anh em (6 anh chị em), ba mẹ là giáo viên nên không có nhiều tiền cho mình đi học. May mắn là ba mẹ không tốn nhiều tiền cho việc học của mình lắm. Hồi còn nhỏ, thì học phí trường công tương đối thấp, lại là con giáo viên nên mình cũng được miễn giảm một số khoản phí. Hết cấp 3, mình không nộp đơn thi đại học ở Sài Gòn hay Hà nội vì mình biết có đậu chắc ba mẹ mình cũng không có tiền cho mình xuống Sài gòn học, mình lại còn 5 đứa em đang tuổi ăn tuổi lớn. Ba mẹ mình nuôi chừng đó miệng ăn với mức lương giáo viên là cũng chật vật rồi nói gì đến đi học xa.

Mình thi đại học gần nhà, được học bổng, không tốn tiền học phí lại được mấy trăm ngàn 1 tháng làm tiền tiêu vặt, ở nhà nên không tốn tiền trọ và tiền ăn. Thời đại học của mình trôi qua rất êm đềm, như là sinh viên cấp 4 vậy, không khác biệt lắm so với cấp 3. Vì không ở xa nhà, nên không biết thời sinh viên với ký túc xá v.v. nó thế nào hihi

Tốt nghiệp ĐH xong, thì mình đi thi công chức, mong tìm được việc làm để phụ giúp ba mẹ. Mình thi viên chức điểm cũng cao, nằm trong top 4, hồi đó nơi mình ở có 4 chỉ tiêu giáo viên ( tức là tuyển 4 người đó hihi), làm mình cũng hy vọng lắm. Nhưng đợi hoài đợi hoài , bạn mình lần lượt nhận nhiệm sở đi làm hết, mà mình chẳng thấy gì. Xem như rớt rồi, thế là mình nói với ba mẹ mình là mình muốn xuống Sài Gòn tìm việc, nhiều người kể cả ba mẹ mình nghĩ rằng đây thật là một ý tưởng điên rồ vì tại thời điểm đó nhiều người tốt nghiệp ở Sài gòn còn không xin được việc phải về quê. Huống chi 1 con nhỏ ở dưới quê như mình lại có hy vọng xin được việc ở Sài gòn.
Nhưng mình vẫn quyết tâm đi, vì mình không chịu nổi cảnh ở không, không có việc làm. Mà hồi đó ở BMT việc làm rất ít, hầu như chỉ các cơ quan nhà nước, công ty tư nhân không nhiều như bây giờ, và việc tìm được việc trong các công ty nhà nước thì cần các mối quan hệ và tiền. Những cái đó nhà mình không có.

Mình xuống Sài gòn may mắn được bác Thiện giới thiệu cho làm việc ở Văn Phòng Du học của chú Van pham, Việt kiều Úc mở ở quận 3. Rồi mình làm việc ở nhiều công ty lớn có, nhỏ có, VN có, nước ngoài có, như Fiditourist nè, Hội Việt Mỹ nè, rồi Cleverlearn VN, rồi dạy học ở TTNN ĐHSP CN8, rồi Nuffic Neso. Nuffic Neso là một văn phòng giáo dục của Hà lan, government funded office, chuyên giới thiệu quảng bá về giáo dục Hà lan, và xúc tiến hợp tác giữa các trường ĐH VN và Hà lan. Nó giống như văn phòng DAAD của Đức, IDP của Úc, British Council của Anh vậy á. Nhờ làm việc ở đây mình có nhiều điều kiện hơn để tìm hiểu các học bổng khác nhau, rồi ước mơ du học càng lớn hơn. Rồi mình bắt đầu nộp đơn xin học bổng, đầu tiên mình xin học bổng Fulbright , được vô vòng phỏng vấn, lần đầu tiên nộp học bổng mà lại học bổng xịn, vô được vòng phỏng vấn làm mình run, nên khi phỏng vấn hơi lắp bắp và mình rớt hihi. Cũng đúng thôi, học bổng xịn, cạnh tranh cao, nên một người không tự tin khi phỏng vấn nói lắp bắp rớt là đúng rồi.

Rồi mình nộp Australian Award Scholarship, được vô vòng cuối và cho đi thi IELTS, nhưng do cái địa chỉ 3 sẹt ở sài gòn của mình nó dài và phức tạp quá, nên mấy anh chị ở văn phòng AusAid hà nội đánh sai địa chỉ, thành ra chờ hoài không thấy thư. Thư sai địa chỉ bị trả về bưu điện, trong cái rủi có cái may, may sao chị nhân viên ở bưu điện Bình Thạnh thấy sdt của mình ngoài bì thư nên gọi thử, và mình lật đật chạy lên bưu điện Bình Thạnh ở đường Phan Đăng Lưu lấy thư. (Chị nhân viên bưu điện ở Bưu cục Bình Thạnh có đọc được dòng này thì em cám ơn chị nhé.) Do thư đi lưu lạc miết, nên khi mở thư ra thì chỉ còn vài ngày nữa là đến kỳ thi rồi, thế là mình xin nghỉ làm 2 ngày để ôn thi. Rồi mình thi đậu IELTS nhưng chờ hoài cũng không thấy gì, chắc là rớt rồi, thế là mình đi làm tiếp hihi, chờ ngày xin học bổng khác.
Rồi mình được học bổng của chính phủ Hà Lan (có duyên với Hà lan ghê, nên yêu Hà lan lắm hihi). Mình sang Hà Lan học thạc sĩ về giáo dục ở trường ĐH Groningen. Trường ĐH Groningen là một trong những trường ĐH lâu đời ở Hà lan, thuộc top 100 của thế giới, là nơi đức vua hiện tại đang trị vì của Hà Lan từng theo học. Nên trường có các campus rất cổ kính, một con nhỏ thích truyện cổ tích như mình mê mẫn luôn hihi. Y như sống trong mơ vậy. Học bổng mình được nhận là học bổng toàn phần, ngoài tiền học phí mình còn được cấp tiền ăn ở,đi lại, bảo hiểm và cả vé máy bay đi và về luôn.

Sau khi học xong thì mình tiếp tục đăng ký học tiến sĩ ở Phần lan vì mình nghĩ Phần lan là nước có nền giáo dục hàng đầu thế giới, mình lại học về giáo dục thì nên đến Phần lan. Đầu tiên thì mình đi học dưới dạng học bổng, sau vài tháng thì mình được trường ký hợp đồng làm việc. Sau khi học xong chương trình tiến sĩ thì mình may mắn được giữ lại trường giảng dạy và nghiên cứu. Mình làm việc cho trường đến nay đuọc gần 7 năm rồi. Đây cũng là nơi mình gắn bó và làm việc lâu nhât từ trước đến nay.

Thành phố nơi mình ở rât yên bình, người dân rất hiền hòa và tử tế. Tuy hiện nay tình hình covid hơi bị căng nhưng sinh hoạt của người dân cũng không bị đảo lộn nhiều, vẫn diễn ra bình thường, yên bình. Vì Covid, nên học kỳ mùa xuân năm sau dự kiến các khóa học vẫn là online là chủ yếu. Nên các bạn sinh viên đang ở Vn không cần vội qua đâu vì VN không bị Covid nặng như ở đây, nên ở Vn tránh Covid một thời gian, khi nào covid hết thì qua. Như vậy cũng đỡ được tiền ăn và ở đáng kể, vì Phần lan là một trong những nước có sinh hoạt phí đắt đỏ nhất châu Âu.

Theatre of the absurd for real (Lee Yee)

Carrie Lam said last week she was not worried about “being included on the sanction list” and had no assets in the U.S., nor did she aspire to America, so without a visa, she might as well exclude America from the list of countries she would travel.

Being the Chief Executive of Hong Kong and asked whether she was concerned about being picked on by a foreign country, she should have answered appropriately that she was worried about the overall Hong Kong issue instead of uttering personal affairs. In fact, her son is doing his doctorate in America. If the sanction against her threatens his resident visa, how could she not be worried? Worse still, if the sanction is stringently put in force, the banks that service the sanctioned will become embroiled, and will thereby revoke the accounts of the latter.

Chip Tsao said on his Facebook page, “Her saying ’I have no assets in the U.S.’, deemed by netizens in the mainland an innuendo against members of the Chinese Communist Party(CCP) moving their assets to America, has unexpectedly made her one-night heroine in the mainland.” Some mainland netizens said they were moved by the firmness and unyieldingness of Carrie Lam, and if all their officials and party members were the same as Carrie Lam, no one would give a damn about the U.S.’s sanctions.

The media disseminated that the U.S. government is considering banning all CCP members and their families from traveling in the U.S. and expelling those currently in the U.S.. When White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany was asked about it, she answered that she had nothing to announce regarding that aspect, but with respect to issues about China, they reserved every possible option. It means the abovementioned measure is not obviated.

Global Times Chief Editor Hu Xijin said on his Weibo page: “This has been the most insane envision of U.S.’s diplomatic measure made by Washington, D.C. so far, and leaking the news to the media is also an evil act”. Mainland netizens jeered at him by saying, “What are you jittering at, Hu? Now that you are so contemptuous of American Imperialism, why do you take a U.S. visa to heart? A ban on CCP members and their families from traveling in America is no big deal. We don’t care for it! It has nothing to do with ‘insaneness’ and ‘evilness’. ”

Honestly, “insaneness” and “evilness” are just words of exaggeration. In actuality, the measure pertains to U.S. domestic affairs. The U.S. Immigration Act stipulates that all subordinates to communist party and members of its affiliates cannot enter or immigrate to the U.S., surely with clauses of exemption. If the U.S. wants to do it, it can simply enforce it without unnecessary legislation.

Carrie Lam‘s “not worried” and Hu’s “insaneness” have in fact laid bare their genuine worries at heart. When sanctions befall individuals, it is all about personal interests instead of state’s interests. Carrie Lam’s son is in the U.S.; Xi Jinping’s daughter is said to be in the U.S.; a lot of other officials’ offspring and assets are also in the U.S.. It seems that the sanctions will be extended to the U.K. and other countries.

The National Security Law takes the cake. In less than a month since its promulgation, the U.S. and China have been at daggers drawn with each other. It has also put China in a situation in which it is beleaguered by countries all around the world. All of these amount to the theatre of the absurd. Everything stems from a book about Xi Jinping’s private life to be published. Then, five stakeholders of Causeway Bay Books disappeared. It was suspected that Paul Lee, one of the owners, was carted off to the mainland. Amidst an uproar in the media, the extradition amendment bill was tabled for deliberation early last year upon the question “Why can’t we nab a person in Hong Kong?” put forward by Beijing. “Extradition to China” was to be legalized by communist Hong Kong in collaboration with China so that cross-border law enforcement would be made legitimized. However, the backlash from Hong Kong people against it was unexpectedly ferocious and extensive, even making an impact on the international community. After the withdrawal of the bill, the National Security Law, which is even sterner, was then introduced. To everyone’s surprise, the evil law triggered off backfire from all around the world, followed by countries laying siege to China in tandem on end.

How to make an elephant out of a fly

What is weirdest is Carrie Lam tabled the extradition amendment bill to allegedly remedy a “loophole” in the extradition treaty with Taiwan, yet in the end she prompted those countries including the U.S., Canada, Australia, the UK and Finland that have signed an extradition treaty with Hong Kong to rescind the treaties which were based on the promise that criminals would not be extradited to China. With the National Security Law having taken effect, the basis is gone. More countries are believed to follow suit.

The loophole is not remedied, but keeps on festering. There could be a complete collapse of Hong Kong and China’s diplomatic relations with the world. The calamity stems from just a little book. What else could be more absurd?

(Excerpt from the lyrics booklet)…… Like all young Taiwanese of that era, Bîng-hong, who had received modern education, was passionate about Taiwan’s future. “I heard something happened at Keelung harbor, I need to check it for you and our kid,” Bîng-hong told A-hiong before he headed out on 8 March 1947. “I’ll be back in the evening—if I don’t return before nightfall, I’ll spend the night at my brother’s home at Sia Liao Island,” he said, giving A-hiong a hug as he left.

Bîng-hong never came home. The next day, A-hiong heard from neighbors that Chinese troops landed in Keelung the day before, and started shooting people with machine guns even before the vessels docked. Troops on land also shot people indiscriminately on the streets. Groups of students had their noses, ears, and genitals cut off, before being stabbed with bayonets. Those who survived were arrested by soldiers, and strung up with barbed wire through their palms and ankles. Then, they were shot in the back of their heads, and kicked into the harbor. Days later, innumerable floating bodies blocked the harbor, and piled up on the shore. A-hiong could not take it anymore, and was in tears all day.

Bîng-hong’s body was never found. In the following two months, the KMT government violently cracked down on uprisings, and purged rebels across Taiwan. Around 20,000 civilians were murdered by the troops, most of whom belonged to the young generation. Doctors, lawyers, professors, and councilors were executed in large numbers, and an entire generation was muted……(Excerpt from the lyrics booklet)
