KM umum RM10.8 juta bina fasa II PDL, siap Dis. 2018
GEORGE TOWN - Kerajaan Negeri Pakatan Harapan Pulau Pinang memperuntukkan RM10.8 juta untuk projek pemajuan fasa dua Perpustakaan Digital Pulau Pinang (PDL) selama 10 bulan dan dijangka siap pada akhir Disember 2018.
Ketua Menteri, Y.A.B. Tuan Lim Guan Eng memberitahu, projek tersebut akan dilaksanakan di bangunan kuarters Kerajaan Negeri No. 123, bersebelahan PDL sedia ada dekat Penang Free School di sini.
“Apa yang kita bina adalah empat kali ganda lebih besar daripada PDL sedia ada sekarang,” jelasnya pada sidang media di Komtar petang ini.
Exco Perancangan Bandar dan Desa, Jagdeep Singh Deo yang juga Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Datuk Keramat; Exco Kerja Raya, Pengangkutan dan Utiliti, Lim Hock Seng; Exco Pertanian & Industri Asas Tani, Pembangunan Desa dan Kesihatan, Dr. Afif Bahardin turut sertai sidang media tersebut.
Hadir sama, Pengarah Perhubungan Korporat Keysight Technologies Malaysia, Jenny Foo; Pengurus Penyelidikan dan Pembangunan (R&D) Keysight Technologies, Jerry Yeoh serta Pengarah BETA Arkitek, Ar. Tan Bee Eu.
Sejak PDL fasa 1 dibuka pada 8 Oktober 2016, Guan Eng menyatakan bahawa kemudahan itu menerima pendaftaran atas talian sebanyak 2,800 akaun, 2,400 penggunaan aplikasi ReadCasa, 59,000 rekod carian Google dengan kedudukan 4.1/5.0 dan 4.2/5.0 di Facebook.
Tambahnya, PDL fasa I kemudiannya beroperasi 24 jam sehari mulai 1 Mei tahun ini.
“Sebanyak 1,569 e-books disediakan dan bilangan ini akan ditambah sehingga 3,000 sebelum akhir tahun ini,” jelasnya.
Menurut Guan Eng, pemajuan fasa II PDL adalah bertemakan ‘Perpustakaan Dalam Taman’ dan turut akan operasi selama 24 jam sehari apabila dibuka kelak.

槟2018年将有第2间数码图书馆 同样24小时开放
2016年10月8日，全国首家数码图书馆在槟城设立并获得公众的热烈反应，位子常常不敷需求。在槟数码图书馆运成立一年后，槟州首席部长林冠英今日宣布，第2间数码图书馆将在原址附近设立，并以“公园中的图书馆”作为主题，料于2018年12月正式运作。
林冠英透露，这个新的数码图书馆是把老建筑翻修并辅以新的建筑物，可容纳540人，是目前数码图书馆人数的四倍。新的数码图书馆就在旧的数码图书馆毗邻，既大英义学隔壁。
新的数码图书馆将会准备2万本英文、科学、科技、工程、艺术及数学相关电子书，应因州政府注重数理科学的政策。而目前的数码图书馆也上载了UPSR、PT3、SPM以及STPM历年考题，方便应考的学子准备考试。
林冠英指出，自设立以来，全马首间的数码图书馆不仅有来自吉打、霹雳、雪兰莪的访客。而泰国公主以及雅加达数码图书馆代表团也到访参观，与馆方代表交流并取经。

Reaching out to a bigger PDL fanbase
THE Penang Digital Library (PDL) will be undergoing an expansion to cater to a bigger crowd of users.
Penang Digital Library Phase Two (PDL-P2) would include the restoration of the state quarters which is located beside the existing PDL.
Additional buildings would also be set up in the process of expansion.
Among the PDL-P2 facilities to be provided are a learning centre, community hall, Wisdom Street, brainstorm cubes and reading booths.
The PDL-P2, with an estimated capacity of 16,000 sqft upon completion, would be able to cater to about 540 users at any one time.
Themed 'Library in the Park', PDL-P2 is aimed at being the best platform to gain knowledge.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state government has allocated RM10.8mil for PDL-P2.
"A project committee has been set up to ensure the success of PDL-P2.
"Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI) is the owner of the project while Keysight Technologies is the technology partner.
"Syarikat BETA Arkitek is the project manager and they will be preparing the building plan of the project and submit it to the Penang Island City Council for approval.
"This will be followed by the tender process for the appointment of a contractor," Lim told a press conference today.
Lim said the Phase Two project is scheduled for completion by the end of next year.
The period of construction is expected to be 10 months.
"A total of 20,000 ESTEAM (English, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) e-books and e-magazines will be provided after the completion of PDL-P2.
"The PDL-P2 will also be operating 24 hours a day (similarly to the PDL) after its completion," Lim added.
Penang Digital Library, located beside the Penang Free School at Jalan Masjid Negeri, was opened on Oct 8 last year. It has since garnered a huge following from the public.
Some 2,800 membership accounts have since been opened.
